Mindless Self Indulgence
Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) is an inflammatory band mixing punk rock and driving electronic music together to create an unrestrained sound. Since 1997, this band has been storming the industrial and punk scenes sweeping many hardcore fans in its wake with its music and albums such as the cult classic Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy.
Release & Show History:
After the release of several CDs and singles, MSI has been selling out headlining shows throughout North America for the last several years, with fans traveling from over 28 different states and four countries to watch the band perform. MSI has supported bands such as System of a Down, Korn, Stained and Rammstein during their tours and performed at the Voodoo Music Experience (twice) with Iggy Pop, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age. The band has also headlined the Coachella Festival alongside Radiohead, The Cure, and The Pixies in 2004. Anyone that has seen them live can tell you that MSI's name truly manifests itself during their incendiary live shows.
Licenced in North America by Metropolis Records in 2005, the band released their first album in April with the new label, You'll Rebel to Anything (shipping over 130,000 copies). MSI's fanatical fans will estatic that there were three different versions of the release; a 10 track explicit version with a video for "You'll Rebel to Anything," an 11 track clean version with a video for "Diabolical," and an 11 track extra heavy double vinyl version. The clean and vinyl versions have two entirely different bonus tracks and all three have their own individual artwork. It will also be available in Japan in 2007 with new artwork and exclusive tracks.
In 2006, MSI presented fans with two new singles and an EP. The first of which, Straight To Video: The Remixes is a super long seventeen track CD single containing remixes by Frontline Assembly, Assemblage 23, Front 242, Combichrist, KMFDM, The Birthday Massacre and many others. Also included were the acapella and instrumental tracks for "Straight To Video" so that fans could make their own remix. The single debuted at #3 on the Billboard Hot Singles chart and remained in the top 5 for several months following. (The single landed at #7 for Billboards Top 10 Singles for 2006 Chart.) In September, the quartet released their second single from Youll Rebel to Anything entitled Shut Me Up: The Remixes +3. The scorching single features remixes by Ronan Harris (VNV Nation), Ulrich Wild (Deftones, Rob Zombie, Static X), and Tommie Sunshine, as well as the demo version, two bonus remixes of Straight to Video, and two previously unreleased tracks. Rounding out 2006, MSI released an exclusive EP through Hot Topic called Another Mindless Rip Off which featured five new tracks along with five remixes of the third single What Do They Know?
On September 11th, 2007, MSI released their first ever DVD in North America, entitled Our Pain Your Gain (UCR/Metropolis Records). Recorded over a three night stint at NYC's Webster Hall, the band and director Doug Spangenberg (most notable for Lamb Of God's Killadephia DVD) have assembled footage which showcases MSI at their best - fiercely independent, stunningly visceral, and ready to showcase their willingness to put themselves on the line night in and night out. Featuring over twenty live songs including the previeously unreleased song and fan favorite, "Uncle." Extras include the "Straight To Video," video and both (original and final) video versions of the "Shut Me Up" music videos, the STV response contest winning videos, unreleased concert photos, illustrated story-boards created by Jhonen Vasquez, A.D.D. interviews with fans and much more. This is the definitive Mindless Self Indulgence experience, second only to actually being there.
The Expanded and Remastered version of You'll Rebel To Anythingwas released on January 22nd, 2008 in North America.
