Mass Minor is the electronic rock project of Austin-based musician, songwriter, and producer Andrew J. Martin Jr. Blending the atmospheric textures of darkwave and post-punk with the melodic sensibilities of '80s new wave, synthpop, and alternative rock, Mass Minor creates music that feels both nostalgic and distinctly modern.
Exploring themes of love, beauty, temptation, vanity, and hope, the music exists somewhere between the terrestrial and the celestial — evoking the feeling of decades past and centuries yet to come.
Originally conceived in 2015 as an instrumental electronic music project, Mass Minor evolved into a distinctive blend of darkwave, post-punk, new wave, and guitar-driven electronic rock, culminating in the 2020 release of Become Each Other, followed by a vinyl edition in 2021. The project steadily established a presence in the alternative music scene, earning multiple appearances at SXSW, recognition from Austin radio stations 101X and KUTX, and performances alongside artists including Urban Heat, Twin Tribes, Sacred Skin, TRAITRS, Ultra Sunn, Vision Video, and others.
Subsequent releases Vast Reflections and Dark Mode expanded the project's sonic identity, including collaborations with acclaimed producer and mixing engineer Tim Palmer. Mass Minor continued building its live reputation through Substance Festival and a 2025 tour of the western United States and Canada with Urban Heat, including performances at the legendary Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles and GLOM-FEST in Vancouver.
Now signed to Metropolis Records, Mass Minor enters a new chapter with Beyond the Edge of Reason, a ten-track album that pushes further into the intersection of electronic music, post-punk, and guitar-driven alternative rock. Featuring songs such as "Nowhere Now," "Get Up," "Dark Skies," and "The Mountain," the album explores the contradictions of the human experience through driving rhythms, atmospheric synthesizers, distorted guitars, and introspective songwriting.
Written and produced by Andrew J. Martin Jr., Mass Minor continues to evolve as a singular artistic vision, bringing together music, visual storytelling, and live performance.
